Best diving sites near Koh Samui

Diving is a great way to explore the underwater world and experience the beauty of the reef. There are many beautiful diving sites in Thailand and luckily Koh Samui has some excellent diving sites nearby too.

Diving is a popular activity in Ko Samui. Here are some of the best ones:

Sail Rock is a 30-meter-high granite pinnacle halfway between Koh Phangan and Koh Samui and is considered one of the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand. One hour from Ko Samui or 2 hours from Ko Tao. You can encounter schools of barracudas, batfish, even whale sharks can be spotted as well as many tiny creatures hiding in the wall. It's pretty simple to navigate underwater at Sail Rock, you can just circle around the rock slowly making your way up.

Chumphon Pinnacle is rising from depths of around 35 to 15 meters, is another great dive site about 40 minutes by boat from Ko Tao or 90 minutes from Ko Samui. This dive site is more suitable for advanced divers. Chumphon Pinnacle is located 11km North West of Ko Tao.

Japanese Gardens is a good choice for beginner divers. Located to the East of Koh Nang Yuan you can see plenty of fish here.

Mango Bay is a beautiful, secluded bay in the North of Ko Tao, offering some good diving up to 12 m deep.

The HTMS Sattakut, a 48-meter-long Royal Thai Navy warship built in the US as landing craft USS 739 during WW II, lies at a depth of 30 meters with the top at 18 meters.
